Cyclospora Updates (September 2026):
After several weeks of elevated cases of Cyclospora nationwide, we are now starting to see a decline in cases at the epicenter in Michigan. However, cases nationwide are still continuing to pop-up, and the CDC is reporting with a 6-week lag.
The total case count associated with the main multistate outbreak is now 11,485 laboratory-confirmed cases reported from 20 states. Massachusetts and Maine are now involved in the main multistate cluster that was linked to contaminated lettuce from Taylor Farms De Mexico
Since May 1, 2026, the CDC has received around 19,000 laboratory-confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis acquired in the United States. By comparison, 1,180 cases were reported in the United States between May 1 and August 31, 2025. This is with 49 states and the District of Columbia reporting.
There have been at least 495 hospitalizations and 2 deaths, both from Michigan. Of note, the total number of cases reported includes sick people who traveled to one of the 20 states but may reside in different states
The recall products’ best-by dates have passed, and the FDA says all recalled lettuce is off the market
